How the math works
Annual salary to hourly is one division — the only question is what to divide by. The standard denominator is 2,080 hours (40 hours a week × 52 weeks). That assumes every week is paid and the schedule is exactly 40 hours. Salaried roles with paid vacation and holidays land close to it; hourly and contract roles often don't. One distinction worth internalizing: $55.29 per hour is an employee number. It comes with employer-side taxes, paid leave, and (usually) equipment already covered.
